چکیده

Using N-body and SPH modeling we perform 3D numerical simulations of head-on collisions between gas rich disk galaxies, including collisions between counter-rotating disks and off-center collisions. Pure stellar intruders do not produce gaseous plumes similar to those seen in the Cartwheel and VII Zw466 complexes of interacting galaxies; the presence of gas in an intruder galaxy and radiative cooling are important for the formation of a gaseous plume extending from the disk of a target galaxy. A noticeable plume structure can be formed if the mass of an intruder is a few percent of the mass of the primary. The halo of the intruder is stripped in the collision, and dispersed particles form a broad stellar bridge connecting the two galaxies. The fraction of the intruder’s halo dispersed in the collision depends on the total mass of the intruder, and low-mass intruders lose most of their mass. Stellar Populations in the Central Galaxies of Fossil Groups

It is inferred from the symmetrical and luminous X-ray emission of fossil groups that they are mature, relaxed galaxy systems. Cosmological simulations and observations focusing on their dark halo and inter-galactic medium properties confirm their early formation. Recent photometric observations suggest that, unlike the majority of non-fossil brightest group galaxies (BGGs), the central early-t...

Colliding molecular clouds in head-on galaxy collisions

We present further observations of molecular gas in head-on collisions of spiral galaxies, this time of the CO(J = 1 → 0) and CO(J = 2 → 1) lines in the UGC 813 – UGC 816 system. UGC 813/6 are only the second known example of head-on spiral-spiral collisions, the first example being the UGC 12914/5 pair. Strong CO emission is present in the bridge between UGC 813 and 816, unassociated with stel...

AGN Zoo and Classications of Active Galaxies

We review the variety of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) classes (so-calledAGN zoo") and classification schemes of galaxies by activity types based on their optical emission-line spectrum, as well as other parameters and other than optical wave-length ranges. A historical overview of discoveries of various types of active galaxies is given, including Seyfert galaxies, radio galaxies, QSOs, BL Lace...

Some Effects of Galaxy Collisions in a Cluster ICM

We present preliminary results of numerical modeling of the combined effects of ICM stripping and galaxy collisions on galaxies in clusters. We use the Hydra adaptive mesh, P3M + SPH code of Couchman et al. (1995). Generally, the formation of extended tidal and splash structures in galaxy interactions will facilitate ram pressure stripping. ICM compression of massive clouds stripped from tails ...

DASTWAR: a tool for completeness estimation in magnitude-size plane

Today, great observatories around the world, devote a substantial amount of observing time to sky surveys. The resulted images are inputs of source finder modules. These modules search for the target objects and provide us with source catalogues. We sought to quantify the ability of detection tools in recovering faint galaxies regularly encountered in deep surveys. Our approach was based on com...
